Lisa Dolcy headshot Music Teacher Guild

Lisa Dolcy was born in Jamaica, and her early musical influences range from the local sounds of the Caribbean to music sung by church choirs under her father’s direction. As she grew older and migrated to the United States, this love of music only grew now accompanied with a strong desire to share it with others. She graduated with a B.S. in Music (Vocal Concentration) from Southern Adventist University and a Masters in Music Education (Choral Conducting) from Florida State University.

Throughout her musical career, Lisa has sung and led various choirs, performed concert solos and directed high school musicals. Her experience as a certified K-12 Music Educator in Florida’s public schools, musician, and private studio teacher is motivated by the enjoyment of making music for music’s sake and a want to equip others do the same.

  • My teaching philosophy based on the idea that individuals learn when information is engaging, useful/transferable and relevant.

I approach learning by first understanding my student- what they know, their musical background, interests, motivation etc. I use all this to create experiences that they have context for and are familiar with. After establishing context, my goal is to use what they already know as a bridge to connect to new information. I am a proponent of learning through doing and value creating experiences when a learner can get in the mix, create, experiment and reflect.
