  • My philosophy of music education is a search for passion, talent and creativity. When I was in 4th grade, my choir director, (who was also a public school music teacher) introduced me to this outstanding world of music, which became my refuge, my love and my passion. I remember the very moment that I had decided that I, too, wanted to pass the gift of music on to young people. I was in high school, and she asked me to assist with a small preschool choir.

Music education truly does help to educate the “whole child”. This amazing language helps our students to stay connected to the past, present and the future. Music not only helps students mentally, emotionally and socially, but also academically. It forces them into critical thinking without them even realizing that it is happening. This help with student engagement. I became a music teacher because I have an immense passion for this art and I feel that it is my responsibility and privilege to pass this on to others. There is nothing else I’d rather do. Music helps boost student confidence and self-esteem. When students find that passion, amazing things happen. My goal is and always will be to create a safe, engaging environment where students feel comfortable to create, explore and even fail. In teaching music, I have discovered that I have as much to learn from my students as they have to learn from me. I’m grateful and honored to be a life-long learner with some incredible “teachers”. It’s honor to be in a position where I can foster curiosity and help students discover the simplicity, complexity and joy in music. An educator is responsible for building relationships and creating a safe, engaging environment where students know that it is okay to fail. Fear of failure should never get in the way of trying. I am very grateful that I have a career where my two passions come together, music and teaching children.
