Jenny Peters Headshot Music Teacher Guild

My mission is to help people discover their unique musical voices. As a composer, educator, and sought-after clinician, I bring a deep commitment to both creating and teaching music.

I offer private lessons in piano, violin, viola, ukulele, and improvisation from my home studio. Additionally, I compose and arrange for string orchestras, sharing a passion for music-making across all levels and backgrounds. I am a retired middle and elementary school orchestra director who served 25 years in public schools. I taught both orchestra and classroom music.

Throughout my career, I’ve been privileged to see students find joy in music, with many pursuing successful careers. Whether guiding beginners or seasoned players, I delight in helping students understand how music works and how they can grow with dedicated effort.

Together with my sister, Rebecca Bogart, I developed the Ukulele for All pedagogy, published by Kjos, and co-authored the Amazon best-selling 21 Songs in 6 Days ukulele series, which has reached over 125,000 readers. I’m also a YouTube ukulele educator and a respected clinician at music educator conferences nationwide, including All-State Conferences in Illinois, Maryland, and Arizona.

Recently retired from leading a successful public school orchestra program in Skokie, IL, my teaching experience spans roles in elementary music and faculty positions at Lake Forest College, the College of Lake County, and the Music Institute of Chicago. I hold a Master of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Illinois, a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Washington, and a teaching certification from Trinity International University. These experiences fuel my dedication to helping students of all ages and abilities experience the joy and depth that music can bring to life.

  • To successfully learn new skills, it's essential to find an effective learning method that works for you. Online classes can be a valuable resource, offering flexibility and structured content. However, mastering a new skill requires more than just passive learning—it involves consistent practice and active engagement. Scheduling regular practice sessions is key to reinforcing what you've learned, and seeking coaching or mentorship can provide personalized guidance to ensure you're progressing effectively.

As a coach and mentor, I enjoy supporting motivated individuals who are eager to acquire new skills. I believe that with the right combination of structured learning, regular practice, and personalized feedback, anyone can achieve mastery in their chosen area. My role is to help you navigate challenges, offer insights, and keep you motivated as you work toward your goals.

  • I am currently mentoring the new teacher who was hired to take over my orchestra teaching position in Skokie, IL. We have met in person to set up the classroom and organize the necessary resources. During our meetings, we've covered classroom management, the music library, locker assignments, and the maintenance and repair of school instruments. Additionally, I've assisted with scheduling, securing accompanists for contests, and navigating the unique challenges of working across two schools. I am also available as a resource for discussing repertoire, student levels, and teaching strategies.
