Asherah Capellaro headshot Music Teacher Guild

With degrees in classical piano and voice, I have embarked on a genre defying career. Performing and teaching in a kaleidoscope of styles, I sing, act, educate, and conduct. Through these media I look for innovative ways to approach traditional art forms, to find what still resonates with us today. I have performed in operas, musicals, and concert venues throughout the East Coast. In addition to working on stage, I also love to spend time teaching voice in my private studio and at the University level.

  • My teaching philosophy is that most of what a student/client needs is already within them. My job is to help them find it. Of course I have expertise that they don’t and I impart that, but never in a “one size fits all” capacity. I individualize every meeting, lesson, or coaching based on each person and where they are mentally and emotionally on any given day. I like to tell my students to think of me as the hardware store. They come to me for the tools they need and definitely for instruction manuals, but the big work has to be done by them, for them.

  • I have been teaching voice and piano privately for 13 years. I started out teaching piano when I was an undergraduate. After completing my Master’s degree in Voice my main focus became teaching voice, though I do still teach piano a bit. I have also been a classroom teacher for choir, drama, and Italian, as well as a teaching assistant.
